Travelling away for the second fixture in a row, Monifieth U15s were playing Forfar on a Monday evening under the lights at Marketmuir . The weather was dry, although the underfoot conditions wet.

Playing in the new 3 – 1 – 4 -2 formation, the Monifieth team were slow to start. This allowed Forfar on one of their first attacks to play a long ball over the defence to take an early lead.

It took Monifieth a few minutes to overcome this early setback. Soon though, with Darcie in goal and the solid defence of Katie R, Alice and Iona with Bobbie sitting just in front setting the foundation for the other players to start dominating the rest of the game. Stephanie showed a good start but had to be replaced early on due to SFA technicalities.

Katie M and Michelle had several attempts before the midfield then started to show some very good play. Cally and Libby were supplying Jessica on the left and Eilidh on the right with some intricate passing.

When liberty came on for Katie M, she tormented the Forfar defence. One move involving Cally, Eilidh, and Liberty ended with a shot from Libby that saw the ball go just over the bar.

Half time Forfar 1 Monifieth 0

The second half saw more and more pressure form the Monifieth team. Wave after wave of attack featuring Liberty, Libby and Emma saw them all having shots saved by the Forfar keeper .

Then disaster. A hopeful high ball into the Monifieth box took a strange bounce off the surface and it struck the elbow of Libby. Penalty. A very harsh decision but unbelievably the Forfar player shot well over the bar.

This was the turning point, as on the very next attack at the other end the referee gave a penalty for almost an identical incident. An equally harsh decision on the Forfar defender.

This time though Libby made no mistake, firing an unstoppable shot high into the right hand corner of the net.

It was now all Monifieth, with substitute Chloe and Alyx linking well, Alyx shooting just wide. Sasha was even closer as she broke from midfield and the ball just missed the goal by inches (cm for our younger readers).

Even Katie R made a lung bursting run down the right and hit a superb cross which neither Alyx or Michelle could reach.

Then Jessica was closest of all as she followed all the rules of a striker and shot towards the back post only to see the ball strike the inside of the post and come out.

In the final moments of the game Forfar had a rare break and they were 2 v 2 on the Monifieth goal. Alice put in the first challenge and Iona and Katie R combined well before the ball was safely in Darcie’s clutches.

Final score
Forfar 1 Monifieth 1

Sometimes football is the easiest game in the world.
And so it proved today as Monifieth travelled to Montrose to play the most northern team in the league. Travelling with the barest 11 players and having to cope with a new formation the players were outstanding.
Playing with 3 at the back Katie R Alice and Iona were never really troubled by the pace of the Montrose forwards.
Newly returned Bobby playing as the midfielder just in front the the defence allowed the superb midfield of Jessica Cally Libby and Eilidh to totally dominate the game. This left Stephanie and Katie M free to torment the Montrose defence.
Straight from the kick off Cally won a challenge in midfield and immediately played the ball out to the wing for Eilidh who took a touch and hit a delightful cross of the onrushing Katie M.
This pattern continued for most of the first half and Monifieth were by far the better team. Despite numerous chances the goal looked as though it was not going to come. However there was little to worry about as Cally passed the ball out to Eilidh on the wing and taking one touch to control and the second to whip in a superb cross to be met on the full by Katie M to score her first goal for the club.
There were numerous chances to increase the lead before half time but none were taken.
The second half continued with Katie R Alice and Iona providing a great foundation for the others to attack the Montrose net.

The second came as a corner from Libby was met by their defender Goalie and the onrushing Katie M. Who got the final touch was unclear but the ball ended up in the net.

The third came from an attack on the left this time. Iona played the ball to Jessica who then found Cally who attacked the goal. The ball then broke to Libby who took one step to the right before hitting a superb 20 yard shot into the top right hand corner.

Darcie had little to do in this game but the times that she was called into action, she dealt with any trouble very well.

There was then some confusion in the Monifieth defence as both Iona and Darcie stopped as the ball was clearly over the line. The referee saw it differently though and the Montrose winger crossed the ball for Montrose to get a consolation goal.

The last 10 minutes were a bit nervy from the Monifieth team but they held out well for a well deserved victory.

Final score:
Montrose 1 Monifieth 3
