Following on from a convincing League win against Jeanfield last week the Monifieth Reds U13 made their way up the A90 to face Forfar Foxes in the League Cup. A strong squad turned out and the coaches rotated the players throughout the game.

After a scrappy start the Reds finally managed to get a grip of the game and they took the lead when Katie Shaw quickly pounced on a pass into the box to flash the ball firmly into the net. Katie doubled her tally a few minutes later when she raced down the right side of the pitch before firing another fierce shot beyond the Forfar keeper. The Forfar Foxes continued to compete but they fell further behind when Aimee Robertson got on the end of a corner to bullet a powerful header in to the back of the net. Aimee doubled her tally when some beautiful passing between her and Kasey McCabe carved open the Forfar defence and left her with a simple tap home.

The Reds went in 4-0 up at half-time.

The second half saw the Reds go further ahead rather quickly when hesitation in the Foxes defence left the opportunity for Aimee Robertson to nip in and seal her hat-trick. Niamh Miller then scooped an incredible chip/lob from point blank range over the keeper and into the net to put the Reds further ahead – technique that Tiger Woods would have been envious of! She then scored a second when she fired home a great drive after continued pressure from the Reds. The Reds finished the scoring when Kasey McCabe showed great technique to spin and drive a screamer of a shot into the far corner leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.

A convincing and dominant 8-0 victory for the Reds over a team who competed well throughout but who will no doubt improve over the course of this season. On to the next round for Monifieth Reds!

Arriving at 8:55am  all the players showed keenness by arriving on time for this rearranged fixture. Originally a home game the venue was changed to an away game due to difficulty of getting pitches at Monifieth. A special thanks has to go to Niamh for playing in this game. She only got a call to play at 8:15 but played a strong game throughout on the left midfield. Montrose were much the stronger team but Monfieth played really well in parts of the game. The wind assisting Montrose meant that it was difficult getting out of our own half and Jessica in goal showed braveness in several occasions and had some great saves. Montrose got off to an easy start where one of the Monifieth players attempted to clear unfortunately put the ball in her own net.

Montrose’s second was a bit of a fluke. The ball was crossed but the slice and the win lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper and into the Monfieth net. Once Monifieth started to pass the ball they scored. Alice won the ball in defence and passed it to Christie. She then played a delightful ball to Emma. Emma ran across the pitch before putting a fine pass to Michelle. Michelle took her time and placed the ball into the right hand bottom corner.
This was Monfieths first goal of the season and the players celebrated in style. Montrose though were the better team an deserved their victory.

Next game is a home tie against our sister team from Monfieth in the cup.

Monifieth Blues 13s welcomed Montrose to Riverview for their second league game of the season.
The Blues managed to make it two wins out of two, although they didn’t make it easy for themselves. The whole team worked hard for each other and some periods of great defending and attacking play secured the victory. Special mention for the goal scorers,a hat trick for Kyna and four goals for Alyx, well done girls.
The final score was 7-3 but Montrose played some good football and were unlucky at times. We move on to the next game of the season hoping that we continue our winning run,a very well done to all girls in  the team.

Report from 7th March

It was always going to be a tough baptism for Monfieth Galaxy, Forfar Away, and so it proved as our girls lost their opening game.

This was a lot of firsts for the team. The first time the team had played together. The first ever game for Jessica in goal. The first time some players had played with a strip with a number on their back and most importantly the first time any of the girls had played for a full 70 minutes on an 11 aside pitch.

The Galaxy girls can be very proud of their efforts. Several of the girls were nervous about playing on a big pitch but they should be very proud of their efforts and achievements. Particular mention should go to Jessica G in goal who volunteered to go in goal and produced some very good saves. She was really brave on numerous occasions.

The back 4 of Leah, Christie, Alice and Katie showed great promise. The midfield of Holly Stephanie Eilidh and Jessica G worked tirelessly throughout the game and managed a few fine passing moves. The strike force of Michelle and Emma did well with the limited service that they received and on another day might well have scored.

Next week is a free week with Galaxy having a bye into round 2. So the next time you can see the silky skills of the Galaxy is away to Montrose on the 21st March.

The first game of the season saw Monifieth Blues U13  away to Forfar Farmington Foxes. The pitch was heavy underfoot, but this didn’t put the girls off, they caused the Foxes problems from the start with Libby scoring a great solo goal. This showed the way for Alyx who scored a great hat trick, with some good linking play with Charlotte. Kyna tried hard but couldn’t hit the back of the net.

Half time saw the Blues winning by 4-0,the Foxes came back at the Blues after half time with some periods of high pressure, but Rachel and Roxy were solid in defence and worked hard to keep them out of goal with assistance from the holding midfielders of Amy and Cara. Chloe stepped up to play in goal this week and played well, she snubbed out the Foxes until they were given a penalty for a controversial hand ball which they scored from. They went on to score another near the end. Final score 4-2, a win for the Blues.

What a great start to the season for a team who haven’t played much together, credit must go to all the girls for their hard work, well done

Monifieth Reds U13 made their way up the east coast on Saturday morning to take on Montrose Girls in their first league match of the season. The girls were fired up to get their season off to a good start and this they did with a powerful and comprehensive victory against a Montrose side who worked hard for each other and who gave their all for the whole match.

A very good display of attacking football saw the Monifieth girls finish off numerous moves with goals spread across the team. Casey McCabe , Katie Shaw and Liberty Whyte kicked off their season by scoring three or more, Aimee Robertson scored a double and Libby Foster bagged a solitary strike. The Montrose number 5 scored their only goal which capped a very good display from her.

A great opening performance from the Reds and now on to next week’s encounter.
