On Saturday night we held our Season 2014 Trophy Night at Monifieth Golf Club. Past trophy nights have seen a steady growth in numbers but this one showed just how far the club has grown over the past few years with the place packed with players and parents to the extent that it was almost standing room only!
The trophy night is a time to celebrate achievements and participation and right through from our U9 girls right up to our U15s we have had so much to celebrate this year. Here is selection of photos from the night:
Within the very cosy atmosphere the girls were presented with trophies for their achievements. Thanks must go to Dundee FC in the shape of Cammy Kerr and Matty Allan in particular for presenting the trophies to the girls. Also thanks to the staff of Monifieth Golf club and James Clark for providing the music.
Coach Ally Kerr has done a great job with the girls in the under 9 section. Playing on a Saturday at the DISC and training every Tuesday they have improved tremendously over the year. The way that the team has gelled over the year is tremendous and there are certainly going to be great players in the future
Team Award – Team with the Best Attitude
Coach Craig Duncan has solely been responsible for recruiting the highest percentage of new recruits to MLFC. His motivation is superb and the girls have responded with some great performances throughout the year. Always with enthusiasm and not a little skill the under 11 travelled throughout Dundee, Angus and Fife. They have had some great results and it has been a pleasure watching the team improve throughout the season
Team Award – Most Improved Team
Under 13 Reds
Coaches Steve Forster, Angie Whyte and Allison Bell have taken this team for 3 seasons now and the girls are showing improvement each year. The vast majority of this team are eligible to have played at under 11 this season. Since they were winning by huge margins last season it was decided to play them in the under 13 league this season to test their skills against stronger opposition. The girls have risen to the challenge and were able to finish mid table this season. A very commendable performance and well done to all concerned.
Team Award – Team with the Greatest Potential
Under 13 Blues
Starting with the season with only 5 players Under 13 blue asked Kyna Robb and Roxanne Stenson from the under 11 to help out this season. A special thanks to both girls for their help. Coaches Elaine Stenson and Ryan Finnegan soon managed to recruit more players and the 14 registered players at the end of the season showed great improvement. The attitude of the players was superb and their commitment to training was second to none – an absolute pleasure to coach during season 2014.
Team Award – Team with the Best Team Spirit.
What can I say about the under 15 section. This season is a season of firsts for this team. We were the first team to represent Scotland at the opening ceremony of the Gothia cup in Sweden. We also had success in seeing 2 players, Georgie Simpson and Shaylen Anderson, being the first to represent Scotland whilst still playing for MLFC. This was a great honour for the players and a boost to all at the club. Coaches Andy MacCafferty, Justine SImpson, Des McGreal, and Billy Foote have coached the girls superbly during the season and assisted with goalkeeping coach Walter Turner, the girls standard has been such that the were still in contention to win the league up to the very last day of the season in a very strong league. Coming second in the league with such a young squad was a remarkable achievement. Playing against teams from Sweden and the USA the girls tour to the Gothia Cup was a great success and experience for the girls and coaches alike.
Team Award – Highest Achieving Team
I would also like to thank Diane Robertson and Derek Robertson for being respectively, the child protection officer and website coordinator during the season
This has been a magnificent season for all of the girls and coaches alike and well done to all concerned. We have to remember that all of the coaches are volunteers and give freely of their time and effort. This help is greatly appreciated and there would be no club without this help. Can I thank all the coaches and helpers on behalf of all the parents and players for all the work that you do.
Any parents wishing to become involved with the running of the teams or any of the behind the scenes work that has to be done do not hesitate to ask and we would be delighted for your assistance.
We wish everyone connected with the club and all other girls and teams who play football all the very best for the festive season and we will see you all on the field next year.
