Final game of season found the blues away to champions Forfar . Playing superbly the blues gave the champions a great game and one of their toughest matches of the season. Having worked hard in training during the week the blues used all their skill energy and enthusiasm to match the Forfar team all over the pitch. With Roxanne superb in goal, and Katie Leah strong in defence Forfar struggled against Monifieth Christie and Emma combined well in midfield and Chloe and Stephanie worked well up front.

When subs Kyna, Alyx, Jessica d and Jessica g coming on at different stages during the match the blues provided a very difficult test for Forfar. Goals from Forfar did come though from set pieces  and the high ball clearance from the goal keeper and Forfar won the game.

Congratulations to Forfar for winning the league as they have been the best team throughout the year.

Monifieth blues though have improved immensely throughout the season and it has been an absolute pleasure to coach this team throughout the year. The attitude and sportswomanship of all the players has been superb throughout the season. This was exemplified recently when training was cancelled due to inclement weather caused a near mutinous revolt from the players demanding a training session.

Parents/guardians  should be very proud of the girls in the team.

A great season from Monifieth Reds U13

Monifieth Reds ended their first season at U13 level with a great result against an energetic Forfar Meerkats side. Over the course of this season the Reds have gained a great deal of experience against older and more established teams but they have competed very well and have ended up sitting quite comfortably in mid-table with some good cup performances to boot.  This and the strong display they gave today suggests that next season will see them competing towards the higher end of the league and possibly progressing further in cup competitions.

A strong autumn wind was a challenge for both teams today however it was the Reds who took the lead when Katie Shaw pounced on a loose ball to put her team in the lead. Katie Shaw broke down the wing minutes later to cross for Aimee Robertson who controlled the the ball before hooking it into the bottom corner. A third came from Cara McAteer when she outstripped the Meerkats’ defence and strode through to place the ball into the net to put the Reds up 3-0 at half-time.

The second half saw the Reds step up the pressure on the Meerkat’s defence and some really beautiful goals followed. Some great passing between the front three of Liberty Whyte, Aimee Robertson and Katie Shaw saw the Forfar defence opened up for Katie to pass the ball into the net. She then notched a third with a headed goal that came from a neat lob in to the box from Aimee Robertson. Katie’s first headed goal for the club! A fifth came when some great link up play on the break allowed Aimee Robertson to release Katie Shaw down the left wing and to then find herself on the end of a perfect cross from her team mate to plant the ball high into the net. This continued link up play allowed Libby Forster to break from deep in defence in the style of Franco Baresi and play a one two with Aimee Robertson before expertly poking the ball home. Liberty Whyte’s efforts were rewarded when she was released by Aimee Robertson who had picked up a clearance from AJ Meach  to then burst through before firing an unstoppable drive high into the far corner of the net. The scoring was closed by an unfortunate o.g. from a Forfar defender.

A great performance from the Reds ending in a 9-0 victory

AJ Meach gave her usual cat like performance in goal, Leah Malone and Sophie Rumgay competed hard in defence and were difficult to get by,  Libby Forster was tenacious and commanding in the middle of the defence, Cara McAteer proved a handful with her pace, Cally Taylor gave a dynamic and competitive shift in the middle of the park and the movement and passing play of the front three of Katie Shaw, Liberty Whyte and Aimee Robertson proved a challenge for the Meerkat’s defence.

Now a well-earned Winter break for our girls before they tackle their second season at U13 level. Good luck and thanks to all our opponents for some great games this year.
