The under 15's had a pre-season tournament at Loch Leven Campus in Kinross on Saturday 22nd February.  The girls had a superb day, playing 3 x 25 minute matches in a round-robin tournament. It allowed us to  experiment with various formations and players in what was a very useful exercise.  Scores on the day were:

  • Monifieth 15's v Forfar Farmington Blues – 3-0 win to Monifieth with 2 superbly taken goals from Emily Younger plus a first strike for new girl Shaylen Anderson from the penalty spot.
  • Monifieth 15's v Forfar Farmington Wildcats – 2-0 win to Forfar Farmington Wildcats – a hard fought match with 2 defensive mistakes early costing Monifieth the match.
  • Monifieth 15's v Forfar Farmington Blues – 0-0 draw in a very evenly fought contest.  Best effort for Monifieth was an Eirinn McCafferty free-kick from 20 yards in the final minute which came back off the bar.

The Under 15's complete their pre-season preparations next Saturday with a friendly against Central Girls under 15's in Grangemouth.

justgivinglargeMonifieth Ladies FC has just opened an account with JustGiving, the world’s leading platform for charity giving.

Since Just Giving's  launch in 2001, they have enabled over 21 million people to raise £1.5 billion for over 13,000 charities and causes in radically new ways. Their aim is to make giving and raising money for charity simple, social and rewarding. Through online and mobile they bring the best that technology has to offer to charities worldwide – which explains why more charities recommend JustGiving than any other online fundraising platform.

They run their business by charging charities a small fee on donations. In the UK they reclaim an extra 25% for the charity in Gift Aid – see an example of how this works for a typical donation.

They re-invest any surplus cash into developing their innovative world-class technology to make giving to charity easier and quicker. From text donations to company fundraising, they create more ways for more people to give.

At Monifieth Ladies FC we hope that this facility will help those interested in offering financial support for the work that we do in encouraging and supporting girls to play football. You can have a look at our page via this link and any donations or expressions of financial support to assist in what we are doing are very welcome indeed.

Today saw Monifieth Reds U13s kick off their season with a competitve friendly against Forfar Flyers. Played up in Forfar on a beautiful day for football our girls showed a great deal of competitive spirit and ability to come back from 3-1 down to claim a 3-3 draw. With many of our girls still eligible to be playing in the U11 league this year and having not played on an outdoor pitch since last November they did look a bit rusty in the first few minutes and quickly fell behind to two well taken goals from the Flyers with the second of these a beautiful strike across goal in to the top corner of our net. However our girls managed to pick up the pace and pulled a goal back when some lovely passing play between Aimee Robertson and Liberty Whyte made space for Aimee to fire a shot across goal that rebounded off the post only for Leah Malone to pounce and prod the ball in to the back of the net. The second half saw our girls playing with the slope however they fell further behind within a few minutes of the restart when the Flyers scored again through another well struck shot that found our net.

Undeterred, our girls began to press forward to get back in to the game and their pressure paid off when some excellent team play allowed Aimee Robertson to score twice in order to pull Monifieth Reds level. The second of these being a powerful effort that the Flyer's keeper just couldn't stop. As the game came to a close both teams tired a bit although there was a feeling in the Reds ranks that they might have just nicked it.

Great performances all round from our girls with AJ Meach solid in goal, Libby Forster and Sophie Rumgay forming a strong defensive partnership, Leah Malone and Liberty Whyte driving in an attacking midfield, Aimee Robertson competing up front against a strong Flyers' defence and Cara McAteer and Cally Taylor displaying some impressive wing play, with Cally showing up very well in her debut match.

Thanks must go to the Flyers players and team for the part they played in what was an engaging and entertaining encounter but from our perspective an encouraging start to life in the next league up for Monifieth Reds U13s.
